In this guitar lesson I will show you the natural harmonic notes on the guitar, what they are and how you can use them. Much more info on harmonics and a very useful chart for this lesson on the web site.Taught by Justin Sandercoe. Full support at the web site where you will find hundreds of lessons on a wide range of subjects, and all the scales and chords that you will ever need! There is a great forum too to get help, no matter what the problem. And it is all totally free, no bull. No sample lessons, no memberships. Just tons of great lessons
To get help with your lesson or song look up the number at the start of the video title (like ST-123 or whatever) on the Lesson Index page. www.justinguitar.com .

the point is you create a node i.e. a point where the string does not vibrate. You get that anyway at the ends of the strings when you play normally, but this creates other point(s) (as justin demonstrated where you can place your finger without stopping the string). It creates a nice ringing tone you don’t get when you pluck the string
look at Node (physics) on wikipedia if your interested XD the principle applies. it shows why you can’t always get harmonics (i think aristotle noted that too

i dont understand what the different between harmonics and “pressing down the finger at that fret” is except it sounds different.

u’re gettin old man…

@xlaz13x WOW dude you are a noob on the guitar are you not? You said you had that selector switch down so only your bottom pickups would work? Dude i think what you mean is you have you selector switch on the bridge pickup. Theres the neck pickup and then the bridge pickup get it right

and f’in right red barchetta is amazing, intro is sweet

actually u cant hear ur pinch harmonics if your switch is all the way up. i set my switch on my guitar all the way down so only the bottom pickups are working.

practice, practice, and more practice. you’ll get it.

well as he says in the vid, let the thum just catch the string right after the pick hits it, and if u have a stratocaster he shows you exactly where you will find one harmonic =)

@Pwnrage92 Thats the thing, I don’t know what to practice on

I wanna understand pinch harmonic, I’ve seen the video you’ve made but I can’t make them anytime, or anyhow like you hear on really good songs..

at the 12th fret(lyk justin sandercoe explains) u get the first harmonic bcuz u divide the string into two equal halves…and ont he 7th and 19th fret u get the 2nd harmonic cuz u divide the string into 3 equal parts…and as u keep on dividing the string equally in length u can get umpteen number of harmonics(just in theory-not practically!)
[Translate]
the string vibrates creating “waves”…as in a wave created on the surface of water(ripple)…a series of ups and the same amount of downs…the string acts as a wave source whose both ends are tied…so some of the waves get canceled(cuz the highs and lows are created at the same point and for ex. -5+5= 0!)…these points are called nodes…touching these points on the string causes harmonics to be produced!
cheers!

wat happens is that when u pluck the string the sound is created by the vibration caused on the string(u probably know dat)
